Our Story

How We Approach Every Deck Job

We build, repair and refinish decks for homeowners around West Allis, and most of what we do starts with someone who's tired of a deck that sags, wobbles or looks worn out. We got into this work because framing a deck right the first time is a lot cheaper than fixing one that was framed wrong. That's still what most of the calls are about.

The failure we see most is a ledger board that was never flashed properly, so water gets behind it and the rim joist rots from the inside before anyone notices. We flash every ledger connection and bolt it into solid framing, not just screws into siding, so that failure doesn't come back in five years. If your deck already has that problem, we'll tell you honestly whether it needs a repair or a full rebuild instead of just quoting the bigger job.

Why Choose Us

What you get when you hire us

None of this is complicated. It is mostly just doing what we said we would do.

Licensed and Insured

You won't find us working off a handshake. Ask for our certificate of insurance before we set a single footing.

Permits Pulled Right

West Allis and the surrounding towns each have their own setback and height rules, and we know which inspector wants what before the footings go in.

Written Quotes

The quote lists board footage, hardware and labor separately, so you can see where the money is going instead of one lump number.

Material Options

Composite costs more up front and never gets stained again. Pressure-treated pine costs less and wants a new coat of sealant every couple years. We'll say which one fits your budget.

Show Up On Schedule

Concrete footings take a few days to cure before we frame on top of them, and we build that time into the schedule instead of surprising you with it.

Local to the Area

Wisconsin's frost line runs about 42 inches down, and footings that don't reach it heave in the spring thaw. We dig to depth every time, not to the minimum someone might get away with.

Common Questions

Things people ask us

Questions about who's doing the work and how to check it.

How long have you been building decks?
Deck construction and repair has been the focus of the work for years, covering everything from new builds to fixing decks that other contractors got wrong. That experience covers both traditional wood decking and newer composite materials.
Do you use your own crew or subcontractors?
Deck installation and repair work is handled by a dedicated crew rather than being subcontracted out piecemeal. That keeps quality consistent from the footings to the final coat of stain.
Can I see examples of past deck work?
Photos of completed decks, including framing shots taken before the decking goes on, are available on request. Seeing the framing matters as much as seeing the finished surface, since that's the part that decides whether a deck lasts.
Why choose a smaller deck builder over a large contracting company?
A smaller deck-focused operation means direct communication with the person actually building the deck, not a project manager relaying information from a crew you never meet. Decisions about framing, material substitutions or design changes can happen on site without a chain of approvals.
Where are you based?
Work is based out of the West Allis, Wisconsin area, serving West Allis and surrounding Milwaukee-area communities.
How far in advance do I need to book?
Spring and summer fill up faster for new deck construction, so booking a few months ahead for those seasons is reasonable. Repairs and staining work can usually be scheduled with less lead time.
Do you clean up the site after the job?
Old decking, scrap lumber, and any concrete or dirt from footing work gets hauled off before the job is called finished. The yard should look like a deck got built there, not like a construction site got abandoned.
What happens if something gets damaged during the work?
Insurance covers accidental damage to the property during deck construction or repair, and any issue gets addressed directly rather than argued over. Certificates of insurance are available before work begins if that's needed for your own records.
Will you finish a deck another contractor started or abandoned?
Picking up a partially built deck happens fairly often, usually because the original contractor disappeared or the framing didn't pass inspection. The existing footings and framing get inspected first to decide what can stay and what needs to be redone before continuing.
How can I tell if deck work is being done correctly?
Footings should reach below the local frost line, around 42 inches in this area, and joists should be spaced at 16 inches on center for standard decking. Ledger boards should be flashed and lag-bolted or through-bolted into the house framing, not just screwed to siding. A contractor confident in the work will show you these details before the decking goes down.
